Dogwood Canyon Senior Portraits
What is Dogwood Canyon?
Dogwood Canyon is a Nature Park, with hiking, walking and horseback trails. There are springs, a stream running through the valley, wooded areas and open grassy areas. You can see buffalo, long horn cattle and other wildlife native to Southwest Missouri. You can even fish and bike while you are there. The paved trail covers six and a half miles of trail and the dirt paths cover 9 miles of separate trail.
Where is Dogwood Canyon?
Dogwood Canyon is about 25 miles south of Branson near Lampe, Missouri and is close to 30 miles from Eureka Springs, Arkansas. It is in a valley in the beautiful Ozark hills. Cell reception is very minimal so plan on not being able to make calls or receive texts after you enter.
How long does Dogwood Canyon take?
You can spend an entire day at Dogwood Canyon if you wanted to walk the paved trail start to finish, or you can rent a bicycle for $15 or purchase a tram ride tour for $25 which will get you where you're going quicker. There are several springs along the path plus the Hope Wilderness Chapel and covered bridge. Hours are 9am to 5pm 7 days per week (check their website before you go). Tickets start at $14.75 for adults for certain low traffic days of the week when you purchase online in advance. Tickets purchased on site as you arrive can be $20 or more. Tickets are refundable for certain situations. (Call Dogwood Canyon directly to inquire or go to their website:
At one of the springs there were stone steps and wrought metal railings that were beautifully crafted. The metal had a beautiful green patina that I love so much! We also stopped at Hope Wilderness Chapel, the front doors were incredible. The light just inside those doors was amazing and made for beautiful portraits. The chapel was made from local materials, including pine, oak and red cedar woods. As you enter the doors the back wall of the chapel has floor to ceiling windows that frame a waterfall behind the chapel.
They even have a huge tree house with steps that is close to the main buildings when you enter the park. You could do a whole portrait session just at the treehouse!
Hope Wilderness Chapel
In spite of the fact that we went in February, as often happens in the Ozarks, our weather was almost perfect. Admission is $15 per person, and well worth getting beautiful shots like these. To get to some of these locations, you can walk the trails, take a tram ride or rent bicycles!
I would definitely recommend to at least bring comfortable shoes to walk in and then bring the shoes you plan for your outfits as well. That way you can stay comfortable and won't hurt your feet!
